Ose out with new positive-focused TV ad

After weeks of slamming Republican primary opponent Tom McClintock, U.S. House candidate Doug Ose is out with a positive-oriented television advertisement.

In the 30-second ad, “Who I am,” hitting the airwaves in the Roseville-area district this week, Ose says, “This is who I am: Businessman and lifelong Republican, born and raised in Northern California. In Congress, I voted to cut taxes 80 times. I uncovered $30 billion in federal waste. And I never voted to give Social Security benefits or amnesty to illegal aliens and I never will. I stood with our troops and gave every pay raise I got to charity. This is what I did and what I’ll do again to put America back on track. This is Doug Ose, and I love this country. And I approve this ad.”

Ose spokesman Doug Elmets said the ad was “designed to show the sincerity of Doug Ose’s personality and candidacy and intent on representing the district by understanding the challenges and meeting them head on.”

The spot is starkly different from recent Ose ads, which have slammed McClintock, a state Senator, as a carpetbagger and ineffective lifetime politician. McClintock, meanwhile, has been running ads of his own accusing Ose, a former U.S. Congressman, of being too liberal for the district.

Stan Devereux, a spokesman for the McClintock campaign, said Ose’s new ad was done with the intent of answering McClintock’s charge that Ose supported amnesty for illegal immigrants. Devereux pointed out that the McClintock campaign was releasing a new mailer targeting Ose on the subject of immigration. (Click here to see the mailer.)

“He feels compelled to answer the charge,” said Devereux.

Ose and McClintock are competing in a June 3 primary for the seat of retiring U.S. Rep. John Doolittle.
