Certified results from the Contra Costa County's elections office make Abram Wilson the winner of the Republican primary in the California 15th Assembly District.
Wilson, the mayor of San Ramon, won by about 300 votes over Robert Rao, a small businessman from Livermore. That gave Wilson about 30 percent of the vote and Rao 29.5 percent.
Two other candidates, Judy Lloyd and Scott Kamena, finished third and fourth, respectively.
Contra Costa County certified its results late last week after counting its absentee and provisional ballots, the last county in that district to do so. Wilson won in Contra Costa by about 2,000 votes.
But a spokeswoman for the California Secretary of State's office said that department has until July 12 to officially certify Wilson as the Republican nominee.
Wilson will face Democrat Joan Buchanan, a school board member from Alamo, in the Nov. 4 general election. Buchanan won her primary with 66.7 percent of the vote.
With party registration narrowly favoring Democrats in the four-county 15th, the fall race is expected to be one of the few competitive state legislative contests.
Buchanan and Wilson will be running to replace Guy Houston (R-Livermore), who is termed out.
