Congressional candidate Charlie Brown leveled new criticism at opponent state Sen. Tom McClintock Wednesday, saying the Thousand Oaks Republican was running for the 4th Congressional District seat against Brown while also raising campaign cash for 2010 races in other seats.
Brown, a Roseville Democrat, pointed to a filing McClintock made Monday with the California Secretary of State's office for an account titled, "McClintock Committee 2010."
That filing shows that McClintock took donations into the account as late as early May, while he was engaged in a primary battle with former U.S. Rep. Doug Ose that he won on June 3. The two men were the top two Republicans seeking to replace embattled U.S. Rep. John Doolittle (R-Roseville) in the 4th district.
According to a summary sheet for McClintock Committee 2010, the account had an ending balance of about $119,000 at the end of June. However, there were no new donations to the account after May 9, when McClintock received $2,700 in contributions.
McClintock also has two active "statement of intent to run" accounts with the Secretary of State's office for a seat on the California Board of Equalization and Lieutenant Governor in 2010.
When previously questioned about the accounts, McClintock said he intended to close them and donate the funds to charity, but Brown pointed out in a press release that he has yet to do so.
"It's time for State Senator McClintock to level with the people in our community," Brown said in the press release. "What office are you running for?"
McClintock, who is termed out of his state Senate seat this year, has unsuccessfully sought positions as state controller, lieutenant governor and governor.
Mike, I don't believe that
Mike, I don't believe that where Tom McClintock chooses to live is as big an issue as what great things he will do for the 4th Dist. Doug Ose beat that one into the ground during the primary, and voters definitely didn't seem to mind where the Senator chooses to live.
As for McClintock being a millionaire, I don't know where your facts came for that. I believe he is worth around 150k.
Also, McClintock has supported the vets repeatedly. I think Brown and his friends in Washington are the ones who have voted down supporting our troops.
It was the $308,000 per-diem he got
While living 14 miles from the state capital that made me think he was addicted to the government tit.
Denying benefits to vets and widows of vets he pried money out of the funds for his own benefit.
22 years at the public tit and he's a millionaire? How does that work?
And when will he buy a home in the district?
Yes we can.
Tom McClintock has
Tom McClintock has repeatedly said since last year that he has no plans to run for the BOE. The money that WAS in the account has been returned either to the original supporters, or to charitable causes. Lets now move on from this non-issue.
As for the comments from Mike, since when did public service become such a sin? Is it wrong to serve one's state and/or country? Did Willie Brown "ho" himself around? Somehow I feel you would use a very different term for him. McClintock served 22 years in the legislature, and as Senator he has made outstanding progress for our state. He will make a great congressman no doubt.
It's not pretty when and aging political
It's not pretty when a termed out political up and comer has to ho himself around because he's gotten used to sucking at the political money tit of government.
Having stand-by plans makes sense for Mr. McClintock.
He's trying to fill the shoes of the previous Republican from the district who had to bow out due to pressure from the other Republicans back in D.C. Seems he was corrupt.
Now he wants to be a freshman Republican Congressman in a much diminished, to say the least, Republican Caucus that will serve what purpose?
So having stand by plans for the upcoming election isn't a bad thing .... it just looks weak.
Yes we can.
