U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) commended U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's choice early Saturday of fellow U.S. Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) as his vice presidential runningmate.
"Over his decades of public service and accomplishment, Senator Joe Biden has demonstrated a commitment to improving the lives of all Americans," Pelosi said in a statement released by her office. "As our Vice Presidential nominee, he will bring his middle-class values -- the values he grew up with, the values of his constituents, and the values of the American people -- to this campaign and to put our country back on track."
As the public face of the Democratic Party since Democrats regained control of Congress in 2006, Pelosi is often a polarizing figure both inside and outside her party for the stances she takes and the direction she leads.
During the primary, she said she couldn't publicly support a presidential candidate because of her role as party head.
Like many Democrats, Pelosi was headed to Colorado this weekend, in advance of the Democratic National Convention in Denver, where both Obama and Biden will receive their party's formal nomination for president and vice president.

Obama should debate Biden
Of course Pelosi has to put on a happy face, but she's probably annoyed he didn't pick someone more liberal.
But Obama and Biden have some big policy differences that McCain will exploit. Obama didn't want a yes man but I think he ended up with a no man.
Not WRIGHT for America has a hilarious spoof post about Obama debating Biden instead of McCain. www.notwrightforamerica.com. I think that sums up the problems with the Biden pick.
VP Biden
That is great news. Now that the Borack has chosen a good man we can get back to the real issue of IMPEACHING THE CURRENT PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT!
Nothing else really matters while our constitution is being ripped apart.
