Schwarzenegger, Bloomberg rally for Prop. 11 in LA

Gov.  Arnold Schwarzenegger and New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg campaigned in Los Angeles on behalf of Proposition 11 Wednesday, with both saying the measure would move California toward a more functional state government.

"The current system is rigged. It rewards legislators for rigid partisanship," said Schwarzenegger, one of the most prominent supporters of the redistricting measure. "It's time to bring accountability back to state government and to solve problems."

Bloomberg said that voters approving the measure - which would make reapportionment the responsibility of a commission of citizens rather than elected lawmakers - would again put California in the lead on an issue.

In addition to Schwarzenegger and Bloomberg, Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca and the president/CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce spoke in favor of Proposition 11 at the rally.

Citizens for Accountability, the group opposing the measure, said in response that Schwarzenegger is headed to Texas later this week for fundraisers that would generate money to support Proposition 11, though Texas has had a controversial record of its own on redistricting.

However, Julie Soderlund, a spokesperson for Schwarzenegger's political activities, told PolitickerCA.com that the Texas trip had been cancelled.

Bloomberg wants 2 contradictory things

Bloomberg is for redistricting reform in California but supports elimination of term limits for himself and the city council in New York City. Can somebody explain this seeming contradiction?

One state cannot draw it's own lines while another city can keep the pols in office by virtue of extending their own ability to run again?

Give me a break.
