The campaigns for congressional candidates Tom McClintock and Charlie Brown each had their own reaction to the latest round of fundraising numbers, with each making a highlight of where each candidate did better.
In a press release, Brown, a Democrat from Roseville, made note of both the $540,000 he raised in the last fundraising period and the $450,000 he had in cash on hand as of Sept. 30.
"This is our strongest quarter of the election cycle to date," Brown said in the release. "It confirms what three polls have now shown -- a gathering momentum behind our campaign to solve problems, strengthen America and restore our economy."
McClintock's campaign focused on the total amount raised -- $978,148.39 from July 1 through Sept. 30 - and said fundraising should stay strong through the end of the campaign.
"We have no doubt we're going to be able to raise the money we need to get our message out," said Bill George, a spokesman for Republican McClintock's campaign. George said that period's amount was the most of any congressional candidate in the state, and among the highest in the country.
The amount was also notable because it included 11,628 individual donors, George added.
Because of spending during that period, McClintock's campaign had $94,214.51 in cash on hand as of Sept. 30, and debts and obligations of $110,135.75.
Brown campaign manager Todd Stenhouse said in his campaign's release that the disparity reflects the differences in fiscal prudence between the two candidates.
George said he was confident the amounts would pencil out by Election Day, less than three weeks away.
"We'll budget it right and spend it right, and after Election Day we'll be very well balanced," George said.
