Oakland council demands and will get briefing on embattled Edgerly

After days and days of uncomfortable silence, Oakland City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente has demanded and will receive a closed-door briefing next week on the Deborah Edgerly crisis at City Hall.

On Tuesday, during a strange press conference where he refused to answer any questions, Mayor Ron Dellums announced that the Edgerly would be allowed to retire from service as Oakland's highest non-elected public official on July 31.

Keep an eye on Oakland

One campaign to watch is the race for Oakland City Council, where four-term incumbent Ignacio De La Fuente faces realtor Mario Juarez. De La Fuente, the Council President, ran for Mayor two years ago against Ron Dellums and now faces the wrath of Dellums supporters anxious to settle the score after an especially nasty campaign. David Wofford and Beverly Blythe are also challenging De La Fuente.
