OAKLAND - The FBI has apparently served a subpoena to Oakland city officials as part of an investigation into alleged improprieties by former City Administrator Deborah Edgerly.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle in this story, the subpoena was served to collect information on Edgerly and her children and relatives that worked for or continue to be employed by the city. The agency apparently also sought time sheets, vacation chits, sick leave and other personnel records from the city.

Embattled former Oakland City Administrator Deborah Edgerly denied that she interfered with a police gang sweep involving her nephew and said that her dismissal by Mayor Ron Dellums was not fair and unwarranted.

In an exclusive interview on KTVU Channel 2's Randy Shandobil, Edgerly broke her two week-plus silence Monday, saying that reports of her interfering on behalf of a nephew during a June 7 gang sweep in West Oakland were just flatly inaccurate.

"I did not intervene (in the gang sweep). I did not provide any information (to my nephew)," Edgerly said. "Not only did I not, I would not."

Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums, apparently having reached his limit in his ongoing range war with embattled City Administrator Deborah Edgerly, fired the city executive this week.

In a publicly released letter sent to Edgerly Tuesday, Dellums got straight to the point:

Ms. Edgerly,

I have elected to terminate you, effective immediately. You will receive your final paycheck that reflects the correct balances, as soon as it can be processed. You will also receive a letter explaining your COBRA rights.

As part of the regular process of administrative separation from employment, I ask that you please contact (intentional deletion by city) to arrange the collection of your personal belongings and to return the City's property, including but not limited to any credit cards, computers, building and parking access cards, cellular phones and personal data assistants (e.g. Blackberry, TREO, etc.).

For embattled Oakland City Administrator Deborah Edgerly, Mayor Ron Dellums' other shoe finally dropped late Friday.

The mayor placed the 56-year-old Edgerly on paid administrative leave and showed her the door according to Kelly Rayburn's story in the Oakland Tribune.

The decision resolved, at least temporarily, what was a growing crisis of confidence in Dellums' administration, the City Council and the overall city government.

After days and days of uncomfortable silence, Oakland City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente has demanded and will receive a closed-door briefing next week on the Deborah Edgerly crisis at City Hall.

On Tuesday, during a strange press conference where he refused to answer any questions, Mayor Ron Dellums announced that the Edgerly would be allowed to retire from service as Oakland's highest non-elected public official on July 31.

She's gone. But Edgerly is not being fired or quitting. She'll be retiring.

Although one of his assistants has already said the mayor would partially reimburse the city for his stays in pricey hotels while on the road, an Oakland-based TV news team has shown that Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums does indeed appreciate the finer things in life.

The KTVU.com report, based on a two month investigation and driven off documents collected through the California Public Records Act, showed that Dellums has spent more than $50,000 in personal expenses over the course of the last year and has insisted upon staying in such places at the Four Seasons and the Ritz Carlton hotels in Washington, D.C. while carrying out city business.
