Mission Accomplished? Bush sewer plant measure qualifies for SF ballot in November

A couple friends thinking of a way to "memorialize" the Bush presidency have taken a whacky, beer-soaked concept from mere idea to political reality this week.

On Thursday the San Francisco Department of Elections officially certified a city ballot initiative that, if approved by voters, will rename a sewer plant in the soon-to-be ex-president's honor.

And, it's no secret that in a town featuring more than 80 percent Democratic voter registration that President Bush isn't exactly the most popular commander in chief in these parts.

But in what could be a new high (or low?) in political theater, a group of city residents are circulating a petition to rename a sewer plant renamed in honor of the outgoing president.
