What the heck is Pelosi thinking?

House Speaker (corrected) Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) has been recently touting U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards (D-Texas) as her preferred choice to be U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's (D-Ill.) vice presidential running mate.

It's possible that Obama wanted this out there, and she's just being a good soldier, floating the trial balloon for the campaign.

But if her actions were unsolicited, what the heck is she -- one of the most powerful and influential Democrats -- doing putting this out there when Obama is presumably days away from announcing his veep? What good is it this far into the process?

It's Speaker Pelosi

Nancy Pelosi has not been minority leader for a few years. In 2007, she became Speaker of the House. Not sure how you missed that since she is from your state.

Edwards

Chet Edwards would be a great VP. Any running mate will be known over the course of a campaign, so the name ID is not significant right now. The question is how people will react as they come to know the person and as a former constituent, I think they would like Edwards a lot.
